So it's been a long time since I've posted. And MUCH has happened at our house. Jayson just keeps growing and believe it or not getting cuter!!
The first week in June the whole family found our way to Oahu Hawaii. We rented the 'perfect' beach house on Hukilau Beach in Laie on the north shore. The weather was perfect, the house was perfect, the company was perfect!! My sister and some of her family were able to come for a few days. (Thanks Eileen, Joe, Nate, and Amanda for coming!) The view was paradise with the beautiful blue ocean about ten feet from our back door. We had a nearly private beach with good waves for body surfing and a small coral reef for snorkeling. We all got sunburns. We had no real schedule except for Saturday....the day of the wedding. Malory and Jake were married about 800 yards down the beach from our beach house on a beautiful
morning, June 7, 2008. The bishop of the Laie First ward (Jake's home ward) married them and then presided while baby Jayson was blessed by his Great-grandfater William Galeai. Then we headed to the First Ward building and had a traditional Samoan wedding celebration. Hours of food and entertainment!! A perfect day! It was very rewarding.
We all agree that this has been "the best vacation" our family has ever had. And that we "need" to do it again. Only this time maybe minus the wedding part.
One interesting thing is the Samoan name given to Jayson by his GGpa. His birth certificate reads Jayson Roy Malufau, but he was blessed with the name Jayson Roy Tama O Samoa Atoa Malufau. According to GGpa translates to - "be of service not only to Samoa but to the World".

Family

It's Sunday again and I find myself thinking about my incredible family. Last week we were all together. It was wonderful. Nick flew out for the weekend to introduce himself to his first nephew Jayson. It was very heartwarming to see how much Nick enjoyed this darling little baby. The rest of us hardly got to hold him at all while Nick was here, but we didn't really mind as you could see the pride on Nick's face.

Family is really where it's all at.

Cute Jayson - 3 weeks old!

Jayson meets Jayson

This is Jayson's namesake. Uncle Jayson Malufau. Jake's older brother.

Grandma Angel

When Jayson was two weeks old he had a special visitor from Hawaii. His Grandmother Malufau and Aunt Sei came to visit him from Laie.

Three Weeks

You'd think I could post pictures of my grandchild more often, but we've just been having so much fun looking at him and watching him grow....You know, newborns are really special. It's amazing how long you can just sit and watch them breath, waiting for that cute yawn or grimace. Jayson is such a joy to be around. Very content and easy going except when he is hungry. Even then he's not too difficult. We have had a few sleepless nights, but he is even getting the dark/light thing figured out. He is growing faster than a weed - on his three week doctor appointment he had already gained one pound from his birth weight - a whopping 10lb 2oz. He is outgrowing his tiny clothes and starting in on those darling 3/6 month sizes. His eyes remain a dark shade of blue which we are hoping stays that way. And he is trying to figure out the smiling thing. It's so delightful when he flashes you a smile. We all get so foolish and giggly when he happens upon one.

Introducing Jayson Roy Malufau

It's been a long while since I've written. We have had computer problems and I've been unable to post for a month and so much has happened in that time. The most important is that Malory had her baby on March 19. This makes us grandparents! I have waited a long time to own that title and now that the time is here I can't hardly get used to it.
Jayson came peacefully into the world after 15 hours of labor. Malory had an 'epidural' during labor which made for a very calm time. But the delivery was so much harder than I remember. I didn't have to work that hard to get my babies here. (But then again I didn't have 9 pounders) What a miracle birth is!! I asked Mal if she would allow me to stay for the delivery and she consented. The birth of this grandchild is so indescribable. I truly am awe struck at the strength of my daughter and the strength of her son!
He is perfect. All his toes, all his fingers and the boy parts are all perfect!!!! To tell you the truth I was very surprised that he is a he!! I planned 9 months for a girl... Malory and Jake did get an ultrasound early on, but chose not to find out the gender until delivery. During labor the baby's heart rate was high, which generally indicates female. When Dr. Thompson came in he took a poll of all the nurses in the room. I think it was like 6 to 2 girl. Jake was holding out for a boy, so the doctor sided with him just so the guys could stick together. After the amazing and long delivery process, before much was said Dr. Thompson told Jake to get the scissors to cut the cord and then he said "It's a boy". And Jake said with the cutest inflection in his voice "It's a boy?" And then he looked at Mal and said with a huge smile, "It's a BOY!" And I'm thinking "A Boy?"
Indeed. Jayson Roy Malufau. Born on Wednesday, March 19, at 10:23 pm. There was a polynesian pizza party happening in the waiting room. Jake' s brothers and roommates and friends!! And Katy.
If there is one word I would use to describe Jayson to you it is "content". He is gentle until he thinks he needs to eat and then you know it. He caught on to nursing quickly. He spent the day yesterday in the "baby tanning bed" (the belirubin light for jaundice). Jake told me he is just getting ready to go to Hawaii in June. Carlyle has been so diligent about sharing the videos that have been taken for Jakes family in Hawaii and Samoa.
